Piggy's Character
Piggy had represented many things in the book "Lord of the Flies" like wisdom, courage, truth, loyalty, leadership and also an outcast of society.
Piggy was always ignored, neglected and stepped on when he has chosen to speak out and was in need of being heard to say the right thing to help out the tribe. Since Piggy was overweight, wore glasses and no one even really knew him out of the tribe he was never able to be taken seriously. He was the brains out of the whole tribe who should have been the one to lead the tribe out of them all. If Piggy would have been the one who got voted to be the leader instead of Ralph and all of the tribe members would have taken him more seriously they could have hung on to what little they had left of their civilized selves. Also savagery wouldn't have came into play with Piggy's wisdom to have kept the tribe organized and well thought out.
Piggy to me seems like one of those friends that almost everyone had that is a little bit of the outcast who always got picked on but was always the best of friend to you no matter if you ditched him /her or not. He'd/She'd always stay loyal to you even when you'd tried to look cool in front of the "popular" kids and pick on him/her. He'd/She'd still be your friend because he/she is true and represents the greater part of society whether he or she be an outcast who doesn't quite fit into a social "clique" of society. Piggy represented a true friend.
Golding seemed like he wanted to portray from the character Piggy that everyone should be treated equally in society no matter what. That all of our voices mean something, and that no one should be afraid to speak out for what is right. To never give into peer pressure and go along with the crowd and stick to what you believe in.
Piggy's character was seen to me as the outcast and those who don't fit into a social clique of a social group, because he was different than all of the rest the tribe. Which portray's to many of kids and teenagers to today's society who get bullied every single day.
